Privacy Policy

Information we collect

Account information: email address and authentication credentials managed through Amazon Cognito when you register or sign in (including Sign in with Apple or Google when you choose those options).
Profile information: display name, username, avatar, and preferences you choose to provide.
Habit & activity data: habits you create, log entries, challenge participation, commitment/consistency scores, and related metadata (timestamps, goals, visibility settings).
Social content: feed posts, reactions, comments, buddy connections, and visibility choices (public, buddies-only, or private).
Device & usage data: basic technical information such as browser or app type, approximate performance logs, and security-related events needed to operate and protect the service.

Mobile app permissions (iOS & Android)

Our iOS and Android apps may request device permissions so optional features work. You can deny or revoke permissions in your device settings; related features may be unavailable until you allow them.

Camera & photo library: only when you attach a photo to a habit log or choose a profile avatar from your library. We upload images you select to our secure storage to display them in the app.
Push notifications: only if you enable reminders or social alerts (for example habit reminders, cheers, comments, or buddy activity). You can turn these off in app settings or your device settings at any time.
Network access: required to sync habits, feed activity, and account data with our servers.

We do not use permissions to track you across other companies’ apps or websites. Permission prompts appear when you first use a feature that needs them, not at install time unless the platform requires it.

How we use information

Provide, maintain, and improve the habit-tracking and social feed experience.
Sync your data across devices when you are signed in.
Display content according to the visibility settings you select for each habit or post.
Send account-related messages (verification, password reset, security notices).
Monitor abuse, enforce our Terms of Service, and protect users and the platform.

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only in these situations:

With other users: according to your visibility settings (public feed, buddies, or private).
Service providers: trusted infrastructure partners (for example AWS for hosting, authentication, storage, and email delivery) who process data on our behalf under contractual safeguards.
Legal & safety: when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and integrity of the service.

Your choices

Set habit visibility to public, buddies-only, or private.
Update profile information from your account settings.
Delete your account and associated data from Profile → Overview → Delete account & data in the app (requires typing DELETE to confirm). This removes your habits, logs, social content, buddy links, profile photo, and sign-in account.
Request a data export by contacting us (see below).
Stop using the service at any time; you may delete the app from your device.

Retention & security

We retain information while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward as needed for backups, legal compliance, and dispute resolution. We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted transport (HTTPS) and access controls on cloud infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Children

YourHabitBuddy is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided us data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the effective date above when we do. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
